  The Diploma in Youth Development is a 2 years full time or 4 years part Entry Requirement:
  time program of study.This program targets people who work for youth Successful completion of NUS Foundation
  organizations & those who intend to work in this field. This Commonwealth Program or equivalent OR PSSC total of 14 -
  program is offered by the National University of Samoa through the English plus 3 subjects or equivalent OR Mature
    Oloamanu Centre for professional development and continuing education age entry - special conditions apply.

    people in the broadest sense  
       
    2) It uses the methods of informal education, which seek learning  
    opportunities that arise outside the formal worlds of education, training  
    and work.  
       
    3) It learns from and is influenced by community development in that it  
    works with young people in the context of the community in which they live,  
    build community capacity by using its strengths and skills in the  
    development of services and is accountable to the community in which it  
    operates.  
       
    Distinct Roles for the youth development worker  
    In this program you will identify three (3) distinct roles for the youth  
    development worker. These are:  
       
    1) Enabling - creating the conditions in which young people can act on .  
    their own behalf; and on their own terms, rather than relying on other  
    people, and especially professionals to do things for them.  
       
    2) Ensuring - operating in accordance with value systems that give a  
    sense of purpose and meaning to how young people use their skills and  
    knowledge.  
       
    3) Empowering - putting democratic principles into action in the fullest  
    sense, so that young people can play a constructive part in the decision  
    making that affects them at different levels of society  
       
    Program Aim  
    By the end of this program you will be able to:  
    0 manage and participate fully in decision making processes at all levels  
    0 manage information relating to youth development work  
    0 demonstrate knowledge of training and development skills for young  
    00men and women  
    0 develop your potential, aspirations, careers and personal/social values  
    0 contribute to advancing youth development work
